New EMU ED74 -01 - trial trip

On April 3rd, 2006, the trial trip of the new electric multiple unit (EMU) ED74 - 01 produced by PESA Bydgoszcz took place. The electric multiple unit went from the station Bydgoszcz Glowna to the station Laskowice Pomorskie, achieving the maximum permissible speed on this route, that is, 120 km/h. In the upcoming days, the vehicle will go through technical tests, and then, it will be sent to the Marshall’s Office in Lodz for the service of passenger transports along the route Lodz - Skierniewice.

EMU ED74 -01 is driven by IGBT (6.5 kV) inverters of the total power of 2000 kW, which cause the vehicle to accelerate up to the speed of 160 km/h. This the sixth railway vehicle equipped with the asynchronous drive produced by MEDCOM.

MEDCOM provided the whole high voltage equipment, consisting of the high voltage switchboards, four FT-500-3000 traction inverters, four PSM-60 static converters, braking resistors, UR-26 high speed circuit breaker (HSCB). Apart from that, there is also a traction voltage measuring system and an electric power meter.

In order to carry out the technical tests, on April 7th, 2006, EMU ED74 -01 arrived in Zmigrod, where further tests are to be carried out on a special track.
